Foreign ambassadors, diplomats pay homage to late Ayatollah Rafsanjani

Tehran, Jan 10, IRNA – Ambassadors and diplomats from foreign countries visited Iranian missions worldwide to pay homage to the deceased Chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

Iranian flag has been flown at half-mast at the Iranian embassies across the globe on the sad occasion.
Ambassadors and diplomats went to Iranian missions in Vienna, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Mexico City, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Hanoi, Madrid, Ankara, Istanbul, Baku, Kuala Lumpur, Islamabad, Beirut, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bombei, Aktau, Jakarta, Tokyo, Damascus, Kabul, Moscow, Brunei, Zimbabwe and Australia to sign memorial books for the late ayatollah in a sign of sympathy with the Iranian people and government.
Leaders of countries as well as distinguished international figures have also sent messages on condolences to Iranian officials on the occasion.
Afghanistan’s Vice President Sorour Danesh and Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Mohammad Mohaqiq, deputy to the Secretary-General of the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdista and the chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Vasif Talibov were among the figures.
Ayatollah Rafsanjani died on Sunday at the age of 82 due to a heart attack in a Tehran hospital.
Rafsanjani, a veteran cleric, a pillar of the Islamic Revolution and a leading politician, served in different positions after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
