Welcoming Ceremony of the First Consigment via Lapis Lazuli Route

02.01.2019 - Welcoming Ceremony of the First Consigment via Lapis Lazuli Route was held on 2 January,2019 in Istanbul Ambarlı Port. The Deputy Minister of Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Enver İşkurt, İstanbul Deputy Governor Halil Serdar Cevheroğolu, I.R. Afghanistan Minister of Trade and Industry Kamila SADDIQI, Minister of Economy Mustafa Mastoor and the Union of the Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Vice President Tamer Kıran participated to the meeting.

Prospects for the creation of an international transit-transport corridor Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey were discussed at the meeting between Afghan and Turkish participants. The budget of the project is estimated to exceed $2 billion.

The Lapis Lazuli begins Turqundi port in Herat province of I.R.Afghanistan and continues into Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey and ends up in Europe. the Lapis Lazuli route’s inauguration see Afghanistan regaining it’s historic Asia’s roundabout geographic position and would bring about development in areas of trade and economic in the region.

During the speeches at the meeting, participants touched on the role of international cooperation in the development of transport and transit corridors, multimodal transport and their prospects in the transport corridor of Lapis-Lazuli and international transit corridors, as well as the importance of logistics companies in the development of transport corridors.

Trade though this route will create a regional transit and transport network, starting in Afghanistan and reaching Europe. People residing along the route will benefit from its immense economic advantages. As known, President H.E. Ashraf Ghani  inaugurated the Afghanistan’s portion of the Lapis Lazuli route in western Herat province on 12 December 2018
