Training Course on Strategic Management in Tehran
A Training Course on Strategic Management hosted by the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) in collaboration with Oil and Gas International Training Centre (OGITC) of the Islamic Republic of Iran was held on 7-9 March 2017 in Tehran, Iran. Participants from Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran (host), Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Republic of Tajikistan participated in the Event. The overarching objective of the Training Course was the raising awareness and knowledge-sharing among the participants of the ECO Member States in the area of strategic management, focusing on formulating visions and proper decision-making for implementation of policies to achieve goals and targets of the organizations and companies in various fields, including oil, gas, and business, in an efficient manner.
The Training Course was inaugurated by Mr. Eshagh Farshidi, Head of Training Department of NIGC of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In his opening remarks, he warmly welcomed and appreciated the participants from ECO Member States and ECO Secretariat for attending the Training Course. He referred to the importance of the Course and stated that the 3-day training exercise on Strategic Management would enormously be informative and beneficial for the ECO Member States and called upon the participants to contribute to the deliberations and proceedings of the Course through sharing their experiences and best practices.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Majid Mohammadi, Director of OGITC and Deputy Director of the Institute for International Energy Studies under the Ministry of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran, underscored the need for capacity building activities in energy sector and noted that strategic planning requires a vibrant educational structure to prepare relevant literature and monitoring mechanism in line with current global developments and trends in science and technology. In this regard, he called for establishment of “ECO Regional Center for Oil and Gas Training Courses” as already proposed by the Islamic Republic of Iran during the 22nd ECO Regional Planning Council Meeting. He assured OGITC’s consistent support in organization of workshops/training courses for the ECO Member States’ senior managers, instructors, academicians, technicians and experts qualifying in the energy field.
Mr. Fuad Farzalibayov, ECO Director for Energy, Minerals and Environment (EME) in his opening remarks appreciated the host authorities for organizing the Training Course, and noted the significance of capacity building and knowledge-sharing activities among the ECO Member States. ECO Director briefed the participants on ECO’s current state of play in energy sector and its priority role and mentioned that ECO Energy Ministers proclaimed 2013-2022 as the “ECO Decade for Enhanced Energy Cooperation”. He also informed that 13th ECO Summit and 22nd ECO Council of Ministers (COM) recently adopted the Islamabad Declaration and new ECO Vision 2025, which will serve as the roadmap and strategy for future ECO cooperation. ECO Vision 2025 highlights enhancement of energy security and sustainability through wider energy access and trade as one of the ECO’s core priorities.
During the 3-day intensive schedule, Professor Sadrodin Nejati Gilani, Full Professor of the University of Teesside and Bournemouth University, and Chief Trainer/Lecturer of the Course, delivered in-depth lectures on different aspects of Strategic Management, including background, purposes, functions, various types of strategies, strategy making process and execution, vision making and planning, thinking approaches, managerial problems and leadership roles, strategy-making hierarchy, models and tools applied in various organizations, companies and departments to deal with different problems and identifying methodologies for achieving the desired goals and tasks of the organizations in an efficient manner. The participants were given opportunity in groups to make practical experiment on making a strategy for a given organization or company. The Lecturer also guided them in making the successful strategy and identifying requisite components.
At the conclusion of the fruitful Training Course, all participants were awarded with Certificates of Completion.
