ECO Secretary General participated in the First Caspian Economic Forum
The Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), H.E. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour participated in the First Caspian Economic Forum on 11-12 August 2019 in National Tourist Zone “Avaza”, Turkmenistan.
The First Caspian Economic Forum was inaugurated by the President of Turkmenistan H.E. Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with participation of the representatives of the governments of the “Caspian Five,” Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Novruz Mammadov, First Vice-President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Eshaq Jahangiri, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin and the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev, as well as and Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov, and the representatives of many other countries and international organizations also attended the Forum as special guests.
The ECO Secretary General addressed the Plenary Session of the Forum held on 12 August 2019. He expressed his confidence that First Caspian Economic Forum will provide guidance and new direction to move on to the higher echelon of economic trajectory and collective uplift and well being of the region. He further underlined that the Agenda of the First Caspian Economic Forum 2019 is fully relevant to the needs of ECO region and have far-reaching impact; it touches upon the crucial economic issues and challenges the region is facing today.
He informed the plenary on the ECO potentials and priorities, including trade, transport, tourism and energy and highlights the latest achievements of Organization in 2018-2019.
Meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov
On the sidelines of the First Caspian Forum, the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), H.E. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour met with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov.
During the meeting, the two parties noted enhanced cooperation of Turkmenistan in the activities of ECO.
The two sides considered the opportunities for more active participation of Turkmenistan in ECO activities including transport, energy, trade, tourism etc. The Secretary General briefed the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the latest developments and perspectives of Organizations, e.g. works on commercialization and transforming KTI into economic corridor; Plan of Actions on Natural Disasters; Afghanistan Advocacy Program; enhancing the role of ECO Trade and Development Bank; Plan of Action on Tourism.
H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov stated that Turkmenistan firmly supports ECO`s endeavors aimed at fostering economic activities in the region. He expressed his readiness to consider all proposals of strengthening of cooperation within ECO.
In the end of the meeting, the Secretary General thanked the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan for his kind guidance on various regional issues. On his part, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan reiterated Turkmenistan’s full support towards ECO and accomplishment of the objectives of the Organization.
Meeting with the Secretary General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Mr. Vladimir Norov
The Secretary General of the ECO, H.E. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour met with Secretary General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Mr. H.E. Vladimir Norov.
During the meeting the two sides exchanged views on establishment of close cooperation between the two organizations, bearing in mind common goals and objectives of the two organizations in many key areas such as economy and trade, transportation, energy, environment and tourism.
The two parties reviewed the implementation of MOU signed in Ashgabat on 11th December 2007 and agreed to prepare a Work Programme to implement the MOU, and holding mutual consultations on regular basis.
