The Secretary General Receives Heads of Bangladesh and Uzbekistan Delegations Participating in Preparatory Meeting for Council of Foreign Ministers

30/04/2017- The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef A Othaimeen received the Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh H. E. Mr. Md. Shahidul Haqueand the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan H.E. Mr. Gayrat Fazilov, who are heading their respective delegations to the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) held in Jeddah from 30 April to 2 May 2017 at the OIC headquarters. The SOM is being held in preparation for the 44th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), which will be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire, a key Member State of the OIC, at Abidjan on 10-11 July, 2017.

Deputy Minister Fazilov briefed the Secretary General on the activities initiated by the Republic of Uzbekistan as the Chair of the 43rd CFM. The Secretary General commended the role of Uzbekistan as the CFM Chair for taking various initiatives towards the betterment of the Muslim Ummah. Both leaders agreed to continue their bilateral cooperation in the days ahead.

Bangladesh Foreign Secretary commended Dr. Othaimeen for the OIC’s active role in different important issues pertaining tothe Muslim World as presented in the statement of the Secretary General to the SOM this morning. OIC-Bangladesh bilateral issues, in particular the issue of Rohingya and upcoming visit of the OIC Secretary General to Bangladesh, the expected host of the 45th CFM featured at the top during their discussion.
