OIC Firmly Condemns the Attack in the Province of Soum in Burkina Faso
20/11/2017- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated by a group on Saturday, 18 November 2017 at Taouremba, in Soum Province, Burkina Faso, in which six people died.
The Secretary-General, Dr. Youssef Bin A. Othaimeen, reiterated his rejection of criminal acts and stated that security is a common good of paramount importance for the Sahel countries. Accordingly, he affirmed that no one has the right to undermine people’s peace and tranquility.
Dr. Othaimeen offered his condolences to the families of the victims as well as to the Government of Burkina Faso. He urged the governments of Burkina Faso and Mali to coordinate the necessary actions in order to arrest and punish criminals around their respective borders.
The Secretary General of the OIC reiterated the ongoing support and solidarity of the organization with all the countries of the Sahel region facing the challenge of terrorism and fighting against this phenomenon in order to preserve stability and socio-economic development.
