OIC Mourns the Late Former UN Secretary General Kofi Anan

18/08/2018- The Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) mourns with heart-felt sorrow and sadness the passing away of former United Nations Secretary General, and noble peace laureate Kofi Anan, at age 80, after a brief illness.

The OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen stated that with the death of Kofi Anan the world has lost a visionary leader, whose absence will be particularly felt by the OIC for his contribution to peace, security and development around the globe and for his role in enhancing the bilateral cooperation between the two organizations in all areas of mutual concern. The Secretary General said that the Muslim world will always appreciate the recent contribution of late Kofi Anan in the Rohingya crisis when he chaired the advisory commission on Rakhine State in Myanmar, which submitted some very important recommendations in this regard.

The Secretary General extended his deepest condolences to Mrs. Anan, the rest of the family, to UN Secretary General António Guterres, UN staff and to the Ghanaian leadership and people.
