Tehran, Baku to boost cultural cooperation

03 Jul 2017- Iranian and Azerbaijani ministers of culture underlined the importance of expanding cooperation in fields such as cinema, music and theater.

In a meeting between Iran's Culture Minister Reza Salehi-Amiri and his Azerbaijani counterpart Abulfaz Garayev, the two sides concurred on organizing Azerbaijan Culture Week in Tehran in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Mehr News Agency reported.

Salehi-Amiri recalled the age-old history of friendly relations between the two countries and added, "Iran has always had comprehensive and deep ties with neighboring Azerbaijan Republic as is evident from over 30 cultural documents between the two governments following the Islamic Revolution."

The minister said reciprocal visits by cultural officials and the signing of cooperation agreements between Tehran and Baku have led to increased relations between the two sides. "Cultural commonalities between Iran and Azerbaijan can lead to sustainable tourism for both parties," he noted.

Referring to benefits of holding cultural weeks, Salehi-Amiri said that such events indicate comprehensive collaborations and communications between Tehran and Baku which bring the two nations together.

Iran's culture minister pointed to tourist attractions in the two countries, stating, "Cultural weeks aim at gaining insight into the two nations since culture plays a key role in international relations."
