Algeria-Congo: 15 agreements, MoUs signed

March 29, 2017- Algeria and the Republic of Congo signed, Tuesday, 15 agreements and memorandums of cooperation in various fields signed on the occasion of the 7th session of the Algerian-Congolese High Joint Commission, which took place on the 25th and 26th of March in Algiers.

The signing ceremony was chaired by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, and the president of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou N'Guesso, who is on a four-day State visit to Algeria, at the invitation of the president of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Thirteen agreements were signed by the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra and his Congolese counterpart Jean Claude Gakasso.

It is a cooperation agreement relating to training in the maritime field, a memorandum of understanding in the training of diplomats between the foreign ministries of both countries, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the sector of post and information and communication technologies, a cultural cooperation agreement and a memorandum of understanding in the field of vocational training and education.

The two ministers also signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of higher education, a cooperation agreement in the sector of water resources and environment, a memorandum of understanding in the sector of plant protection and vegetal quarantine, an agreement in the field of veterinary health, a trade agreement and an agreement relating to the exemption of visas for holders of diplomatic or service passports.

On the same occasion, a memorandum of agreement on cooperation was signed by the president of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI) Mohamed Laid Benamor, and his counterpart of the Congolese Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Crafts, Paul Obambi.

A memorandum of understanding on the promotion of foreign trade was also signed by Chafik Chiti from the National Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Trade and by the Congolese ambassador to Algeria Jean Pierre Louyebo.
