Vietnamese President urges banks to establish ties with Iran

Kuala Lumpur, April 21, IRNA – The Vietnamese president, in a visit from the Chairman of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) in Hanoi on Thursday, welcomed the expansion of relations between the merchants of Iran and Vietnam and urged the Vietnamese banks to initiate the relations with the Iranian banks.

Referring to the close relations with Iran, Trần Đại Quang, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, said, “We witnessed two good incidents last year: A visit by Trương Tấn Sang, the previous president of the Vietnam, to Iran and President Rouhani’s visit to Vietnam, which led to a closer relation between the two nations.”

According to vietnamnews.vn, ICCIMA Chairman, Gholam Hussein Shafei said, “Vietnam can be a bridge connecting Iranian products to Southeast Asian countries, and vice versa, Iran will be a gateway for Vietnam’s goods to reach the Middle East, Central Asia and Europe.”

Iran, one of the largest oil reserve countries in the world could also supply Vietnam with products such as petrochemicals, bitumen, polymers, base oils, building materials and minerals.

Vietnam’s main exported products are footwear, textile and garment, fruits, rubber, coffee, rice, pepper, whereas Iran could provide Vietnam with energy sources.

The presidents of the two countries agreed last year to boost bilateral trade to $2 billion by 2021.
