Pakistan wants diplomatic solution to Qatar-Saudi tension

Islamabad, July 18, IRNA – Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif has described Islamabad-Doha ties as “brotherly” and stressed Pakistan diplomatic solution to Qatar-Saudi tension.

Sharif made the remark in a meeting with Qatari FM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

Mohammed briefed PM Nawaz Sharif on Qatar’s response to the demands of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt, read a statement issued by the PM Office.

The Qatari top diplomat informed PM Sharif about the current status of the mediation efforts by Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Nawaz Sharif appreciated the mediatory initiative by Kuwait, saying Pakistan supports the initiative in finding a solution to the crisis in Persian Gulf region.

He reiterated that Pakistan wanted close, friendly and cooperative relations with all PGCC countries including Qatar and is concerned at the recent crisis in the Middle East.

“The people and government of Pakistan wish to see a diplomatic solution of the problem between the brotherly Islamic countries,” he maintained.

The minister expressed his gratitude to the premier for the warm reception and reiterated the desire to further enhance bilateral relations.
