House set to approve 2018 state budget on Wednesday
Jakarta Post | October 24, 2017- The House of Representatives plans to sign the 2018 state budget bill into law on Wednesday to end the lengthy deliberation involving lawmakers and government representatives.
Before the house’s plenary session on Wednesday, government representatives, Bank Indonesia and members of the house’s budget committee would carry out a working meeting to have a final look into the bill.
During the meeting, the committee would receive reports and approve a document prepared by a working committee, to listen to the final remark from each faction in the house, to listen to the government’s opinion and to read the state budget’s final draft.
On Monday, Azis Syamsuddin, the house’s budget committee chairman, said the working meeting would be held on Monday, but it was still waiting on reports from three house commissions that had completed their discussion with their partners in the government.
“We still have several hours before the kickoff of the working meeting,” said Azis as reported by kontan.co.id.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati agreed to postpone the working meeting to Tuesday to allow members of three house commissions to lobby related government officials on the remaining issues.
“We will contact all ministers and officials of the relevant institutions so that they could conclude their discussion in the next nine hours,” Sri Mulyani added.
