OIC: COMCEC Holds its 33th Session in Istanbul

18/11/2017- The Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) will hold its Thirty-Third Session in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, on 20-23 November 2017, in the presence of H.E. the President of the Republic of Turkey, President of COMCEC, the OIC Secretary General, and the relevant ministers of the OIC Member States.

The OIC Secretary General, H.E. Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony, highlighting the latest actions taken by the OIC General Secretariat and institutions working in the field of enhancing economic cooperation among Member States since the 32nd Session of the COMCEC General Assembly held in Turkey in November 2016.

The COMCEC 33rd Session focuses on the development of trans-border transport corridors among the OIC Member States. This sector is one of the main priorities of the OIC economic cooperation agenda, as transport is one of the main catalysts of economic development and competitiveness for countries. The session devotes four ministerial sessions to discuss the improvement of trans-border transport corridors among the OIC Member States.

The most important topics discussed include the OIC Program of Action 2025, Global Economic Developments and its Implications for Member States, Intra-OIC Trade, Improving the Role of the Private Sector in Economic Cooperation, Promotion of Transport and Communication, Increasing Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability of Food Security, and Poverty alleviation.

The Fifth OIC Halal Products Fair, the COMCEC Financing Fair, and the Special Forum on Transport Corridors will take place on the sidelines of the Session.
