Western Iran quake injury count mounts to 51

January 07, 2018 - The number of people injured in a 5.1-magnitude quake which hit Sar Pol-e Zahab city in the western province of Kermanshah on Saturday evening rose to 51, a provincial official said.

41 injured were from Qasr-e Shirin and 9 others were from Gilan-e Gharb, director general of Kermanshah crisis management office Reza Mahmoudian told IRNA.

“Rescue and relief teams were immediately radioed to be on site,” he said.

According to a report of seismography center affiliated to Tehran University Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 18:55 hours local time (15:25 hours GMT) and in the depth of eight km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was registered at seven km of Sarpol-e Zahab, 20 km of Qasr-e Shirin and 37 km Gilan-e Gharb.

From the November 12 earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale which claimed 620 lives and wounded 12,386 individuals in Kermanshah Province, to December 26 over 1,669 aftershocks were registered in this region.
