Iranian director Moaadi awarded at Turkey's Bosphorous festival
November 04, 2018 - Iranian actor and director Peyman Moaadi has been awarded Best Director at the Sixth International Bosphorus Film Festival in Turkey for his film 'Bomb: A Love Story'.
A total of 88 movies by 90 directors from 41 countries were featured in the festival which kicked off on October 26 and wrapped up on November 3.
While receiving the award of the International section, Moaadi said, "I am glad to be here in the lovely city of Istanbul." He hopes to cooperate with Istanbul in the film industry.
World renowned Iranian stars Leila Hatami and Peyman Moaadi were brought together seven years after Oscar-winner Asghar Farhadi's 'A Separation'. Their latest film 'Bomb: A Love Story' takes place in 1988 and is a story of love and hope in the relentlessly bombed Tehran during the last days of Iran-Iraq war.
Moaadi and Hatami, two of the most distinguished thespians in Iranian cinema, attended the festival as guests.
"Bosphorus festival is on the boil for hosting world-renowned personages. Two of the highly anticipated guests of the festival will be Leila Hatami and Peyman Moaadi, the most distinguished actors of Iranian cinema. Having received both Golden and Silver Bear awards from Berlinale, the duo will come to Istanbul for premiere of 'Bomb: A Love Story'," said the festival's website ahead of its screening.
The second directing attempt of Payman Moaadi, 'Bomb: A Love Story', depicts romance in war stricken Iran in the late 80s. It is about Tehran, the Iranian capital, under bomb attacks with terror prevailing in the city.
The film shows how love and emotions, life and hope wash away the horrific image of the war.
Another Iranian director, Babak Jalali, won the Special Jury Prize for 'Land'.
At the closing ceremony at Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall, the head of the panel of jury, Parviz Shahbazi from Iran awarded the Best International Feature Film Prize to 'Screwdriver' by Palestinian director Bassam Jarbawi. This is while Best International Short Fiction Film Award went to 'Patison Avenue' by Thanasis Neofotistos.
'Halef', directed by Turkish director, Murat Duzgunoglu, was named Best National Feature Film at the national competition and won 100,000 TL ($18,400) Grand Prix.
Bogazici Film Festival, also known as the International Bosphorus Film Festival, aims to contribute to the development of ethics, aesthetics and technical cohesive movies.
