Iranian national teams among nominees for world futsal awards
December 07, 2018 - Iran men’s and women’s national futsal teams were nominated for the Best National Team of the World award at the 2018 UMBRO Futsal Awards.
Iran women’s team was nominated after a dazzling campaign at the 2018 AFC Women's Futsal Championship in Thailand last May saw the Iranians claim a second successive title.
A record-extending 12th title at the 2018 AFC Futsal Champions in February also earned Iran men’s national team a place in the top 10 shortlist.
The two sides will be competing for the prestigious award with the likes of five-time world champion Brazil, European champion Portugal, Russia and Spain.
Additionally, goalie of Iran men’s national team Alireza Samimi was selected as a nominee in the category for the Best Goalkeeper of the World to compete with 10 other goalkeepers for the global award.
Moreover, Iran’s Gelareh Nazemi, who officiated the women’s futsal final between Japan and Portugal at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in October, received a nomination for the Best Referee of the World award.
Iran’s Fatemeh Etedadi and Farzaneh Tavassoli had already opened the account for Iran in the nominations list as they were shortlisted for the best female player and goalkeeper awards respectively.
The UMBRO Futsal Awards is the most prestigious annual futsal awards ceremony organized and held by the website futsalplanet.com.
The winners of the 19th edition of the awards will be announced on January 10.
