Iran, Turkey agree to facilitate cross border traffic

February 12, 2019 - Officials of Iran's Bazargan Customs and Turkey's Gürbulak Customs agreed to facilitate truck traffic across the border between the two countries, with over 450 trucks crossing the checkpoint daily.

A joint meeting was held at the Bazargan Customs Department on Tuesday between officials of the two countries which was attended by governor of Doğubayazıt city, Ağrı Province customs officials, director general of customs of Doğubayazıt city and also members of the coordinating committee, reported Fars News Agency.

In mid-January, Iranian and Turkish officials agreed to solve problems hindering trade interactions across the common border of the two countries, and vowed to further strengthen cooperation and good neighborliness.

The 48th Iran-Turkey subcommittee on border security convened in the Turkish border province of Hakkari.

The Iranian delegation to the meeting was headed by Governor General of West Azarbaijan Province Alireza Mohammadizadeh, while the Turkish delegation was led by Hakkari Governor Idris Akbiyik, according to a statement by Hakkari governorate.

During the subcommittee session, the two sides discussed obstacles to border trade and ways to solve them, the announcement said.

A statement issued at the end of the meeting added that the two delegations also signed a protocol but the details were not disclosed.

It said the two sides underlined the need for further cooperation and good neighborliness.
