UAE and Canada discuss trade

March 6, 2017 - Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation of the UAE, and Francois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade of Canada, on Sunday met in Abu Dhabi to discuss ways of promoting and enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries, with a focus on trade and investment, to benefit their people.

Welcoming Champagne’s visit, Sheikh Abdullah stressed that the UAE is keen on bolstering co-operation with Canada in various spheres.

Champagne hailed the significant progress taking place in the UAE. He stressed that his country is keenly interested in expanding co-operation with the UAE at various levels. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation.

Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) also hosted on Saturday a trade meeting with a delegation from Canada.

The roundtable event saw the two parties assessing an array of initiatives that have the potential to lead to significant mutual benefits for both the countries.

Aimed at exploring bilateral investment opportunities as part of Shurooq’s efforts to enhance Sharjah’s economic landscape through increased trade cooperation, the meeting was chaired by Marwan Bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq.

Heading the Canadian delegation was Her Excellency Deb Matthews, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, Minister Responsible for Digital Government and Deputy Premier of Ontario.
