TEHRAN (FNA)- The Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI) Saeed Rasouli said that his country has become 100% self-sufficient in the production of freight wagons.

Saeed Rasouli expressed content that Iran is now capable of manufacturing parts that used to be imported, adding that the progress has been made under the US cruel sanctions.

The development of railway section is one of Iran’s macro policies as in line with the general policies of the Sixth Five-Year National Development Plan (2016-2021).

In relevant remarks in late July, Minister of Road and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami announced that a sum of 259 types of passenger and freight wagons, as well as locomotives worth over $1 million have been put into operation in Iran's railway section.

"In the year named by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei as the 'Year of Surge in Production' and with the operation of new railway fleets in the first four months of this year, compared to the same period last year, the total production of the railway fleet in the country has grown by 48 percent," Eslami said.

He pointed out that 49 new freight wagons were produced in Pars Wagon and Kowsar Wagon manufacturing companies, and a locomotive in Mapna Locomotive Company joined the country's railway system.

Eslami said that creativity, innovation, and focusing on the latest technology in all aspects are developing.

"By supporting in charge organizations we hope to achieve our goal which is producing 2000 railway fleet," he added.
