Tehran, IRNA - The ambassador of Kazakhstan in Iran Askhat Orazbay expressed the hope for the lifting of oppressive sanctions on Tehran and strengthening of economic ties with Iran.

Orazbay made the remarks during the meeting termed Kazakhstan achievements in its 30 years of independence at the ECO Cultural Institute in Tehran.

He said that Iran was one of the first countries that recognized Kazakhstan immediately after independence (in 1991) and established its embassy in Nur-Sultan.

Stating that Kazakhstan understands and respects Iran's position in the region and the world, he added that the Republic of Kazakhstan has not taken any action against Tehran even during the most difficult period in which the Islamic Republic of Iran suffered unfair sanctions.

Orazbay said Kazakhstan has many social, religious, cultural, and language roots with Iran, adding that Kazakhstan has never had a border, economic and political problems with Iran.

He expressed hope that after the end of the coronavirus pandemic, they will see the lifting of oppressive sanctions and, consequently, broader trade and economic relations with Iran.

Iran and Kazakhstan have made significant steps in the field of bilateral relations, he noted.

Referring to the presence of the 30-member delegation from Kazakhstan in Iran, he highlighted that significant memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on exports, imports, and logistics were signed in Tehran that show the revival of relations between Iran and Kazakhstan in various fields.

Congratulating Iran on joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Orazbay added that they expect the first vice president of the Islamic Republic of Iran to travel to Kazakhstan and attend this important meeting for the first time.

Meantime, former Iranian ambassador to Kazakhstan Mojtaba Damirchi who was speaking at the same event said that in the last 30 years, Kazakhstan has continued a balanced foreign policy and made good relations with other countries, including Iran.

He called relations between the two countries constructive and friendly, adding that the two sides tend to use these capacities as much as possible.
