OIC Secretary General Condemns Massacre of Muslims in Pombolo, the Central African Republic

19/10/2017- The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen has strongly condemned the reported massacre on 18th October 2017, by the Anti-Balaka militia of 146 Muslims in Pombolo, the Central African Republic (CAR).

Dr Othaimeen who expressed grave concern at the deteriorating situation in the country with the escalation of violence against innocent civilians especially targeting the Muslim community, noted that the attacks must be brought to an immediate end. He observed that the latest mass killing which comes a few days after the attack on a Mosque in Kembe on 13th October 2017, has further raised the danger of a generalized conflict in CAR which the international community had hoped would regain its peace and stability after the successful general election s of 2016.

The Secretary General, while presenting his deep condolences the families of the victims and the Government of CAR, urged the authorities to identify the perpetrators of this heinous crime against humanity with a view to bringing them to justice. He also appealed to them and MINUSCA to take all necessary measures to protect all citizens, and prevent the re-occurrence of this tragedy. Dr Al-Othaimeen finally, called on humanitarian agencies to extend urgent assistance to the victims and the needy people of CAR.
